This healthy honey walnut shrimp tastes just as good as the real thing. But it’s low sugar and packed with healthy fats.

If you’ve ever had honey walnut shrimp, you know just how delicious it is. It is the perfect balance of sweet, savory and crispy. I took it upon myself to create a healthier version of this recipe in collaboration with Diamond of California for American Heart Month. This Air Fryer Honey Walnut Shrimp is just as good as the real thing. Heart disease is the #1 killer of men and women in the United States. American Heart Month is important because lifestyle changes such as consuming a healthier diet can help improve heart health.

This recipe is super simple. In just a few steps you will be on your way to eating a delicious meal. Here are the main ingredients we used:

  • California Walnuts

  • Wild Caught Shrimp

  • Honey

  • Lowfat Mayo

  • Tapicoa flour instead of all purpose flour

  • Lemon

How to Make Crispy Shrimp in the Air Fryer

We used tapioca starch to create a light crispy coating for the shrimp. After dipping the shrimp in egg wash, they are placed in the air fryer and lightly sprayed with cooking spray. After 10 minutes they are perfectly crispy and ready to be coated in the honey sauce.

How to Make Low Sugar Walnuts

Honey Walnut Shrimp typically has candied walnuts. We made air fryer candied walnuts for this recipe. They are simply coated in a little oil and a small amount of sugar. They are then cooked in the air fryer for about 10 minutes.
